The video work „Semiotics of the Kunstfeld“ reveals which symbols, signs, gestures and activities are linked to the classist modes of operation in the art field. Which disadvantages due to social origin (classism), racism or gender determine access to educational institutions and funding opportunities?

„Semiotics of the Kunstfeld“ deals with the symbolic level of cultural capital with a view to art academies and the art market. The German passport becomes the symbol of the „globetrotter“ and thus recognisable as a privilege within a global art market. The working pullover of the waste disposal company is now called „fashion“ and thus refers to the economisation of working clothes - as exemplified by the history of jeans as former working trousers or the jumper recently designed by the Swiss label „vetements“ in DHL aesthetics. Such processes are ultimately products of a semiotics of the art field: if a credible institution says it is art or fashion, then it is perceived as such and the corresponding price is paid for it.

No money, but buy art!
