Private photo-archives are an immediate method of traveling through time and space to reconnect with memories, experiences, family members and versions of oneself that are long gone. We tend to hold onto photographical documents of our pasts so we can be able to trace back and manifest the evidence of a mark we left on the world and a mark the world has left on us during our lifetimes.

What happens though, when a speculative genealogy is applied to manipulate photographical evidence in order to incorporate and visualise supposed marks global histories left on us?

Portrait_01 is an experiment on how global ancient civilisations, their visual and cultural practices, symbolisms, aesthetics and materialities could be utilised to excavate these marks through a speculative genealogy, projected onto an exemplified childhood portrait of myself.
